August 2024 - As part of the celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan 2024, LILAK (Purple Action for Indigenous Women's Rights) amplified the voices of KKPinay, or Katutubong Kabataang Pinay, to shed light on pressing issues faced by indigenous youth. These concerns were initially brought to the forefront during the KKPinay Kamp held last year.

One of the young indigenous women, Ahdel, an Ilantungen Kirintiken Manobo, shared her experiences regarding the challenges faced by indigenous students. She emphasized the significant distance of schools from indigenous communities, which not only adds to the financial burden but also poses a substantial hardship for indigenous youth seeking education.

The event aimed to bring attention to these critical issues and advocate for better access to education for indigenous communities. Through Ahdel's testimony and the stories of other KKPinay, LILAK hopes to inspire action and policy changes that will alleviate the struggles faced by indigenous youth.

The celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan 2024 provided a vital platform for these voices to be heard, underscoring the importance of addressing the unique challenges that indigenous youth encounter in their pursuit of education and a better future.
