On July 22, 2024, the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) participated in a coordinated people's action to spotlight the urgent human rights issues in the Philippines. As President Marcos delivered his State of the Nation Address, PAHRA called on everyone to unite and demand accountability, justice, and substantial policy changes. The event sought to amplify voices and prioritize the rights, justice, and welfare of all Filipinos.
The demonstration aimed to highlight the true state of human rights in the country, addressing critical issues such as Charter Change (Cha-Cha), rising food prices, fair wages, and the plight of political prisoners. PAHRA's message was clear: "Unahin ang Karapatan, katarungan at kagalingan ng Mamamayan! Hindi Cha-cha! Hindi Gera! Hindi trapo at dinastiya!" (Prioritize the rights, justice, and welfare of the people! No to Charter Change! No to war! No to traditional politicians and dynasties!)
The event schedule included an 8:00 AM assembly in front of the National Housing Authority, followed by a joint program at 8:30 AM with the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC), Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ), and other sectoral organizations. At 9:30 AM, participants marched to Commonwealth to further their cause.
PAHRA encouraged everyone to join the action and use hashtags #SOHRA2024, #HumanRightsPH, and #AccountabilityNow to spread the word. The organization emphasized that by showing unity in the call for justice and human rights, significant change could be achieved.
