The Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) vehemently condemns the Senate's decision on Wednesday to archive the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, citing the recent ruling of the Supreme Court as justification.

“For those senators who voted to archive the articles of impeachment, let it be clear. They have chosen to conceal the truth from the Filipino people,” said PAHRA Secretary-General Edgar Cabalitan. “Malinaw ang mensahe sa mamamayan: ang mga senador na ito ay mas piniling kampihan si VP Duterte kaysa panindigan ang katotohanan.”

The Senate's action effectively halts the impeachment process, despite widespread public demand for accountability. What follows now is the Supreme Court’s decision on the pending motion for reconsideration. If denied, the House of Representatives will be barred from refiling any impeachment complaint against the Vice President until February 6, 2026, in accordance with the one-year rule.

“This is not the end of the road for the truth to come out,” Cabalitan added. “But it should never be this hard for Filipinos to seek justice. They should not have to fight tooth and nail for accountability. Justice must be a right freely available to all, not a privilege decided by political will.”

PAHRA emphasizes that the people will not forget this betrayal of public trust. The call for truth and justice continues, and the fight for accountability will not be silenced by procedural delay or political convenience.
