The Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) welcomes the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte as a crucial step toward accountability. For years, PAHRA and civil society groups have fought against his bloody regime. His war on drugs claimed thousands of lives, mostly from poor communities, while victims’ families sought justice. Now, the wheels of justice are finally turning.

"Your days are over, Digong. No more power, no more immunity, no more escaping justice. The blood of your victims will haunt you, and the crimes you thought you buried will bury you instead. Tapos na ang mga mapang-abusong araw mo," said Egay Cabalitan, PAHRA Secretary-General.

PAHRA calls on the government to ensure full justice by arresting Duterte’s allies and accomplices. The system that enabled his reign of terror did not operate alone. Those who protected, enforced, and justified his crimes must be held accountable. Justice cannot be selective, and impunity must end at all levels.

"Huwag nating hayaang malungkot si Tatay Digong. Isama natin ang kaniyang mga kasabwat. Kung paano sila nagpakasasa sa kapangyarihan noon, dapat silang managot nang sama-sama ngayon. This fight is far from over," added Cabalitan.
