Quezon City, Philippines – December 5, 2024 – As geopolitical tensions escalated worldwide, the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) and SANLAKAS convened the All Leaders Forum on War, Peace, and Resistance with the theme "On the Brink of Nuclear War." This timely and urgent dialogue was held from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Function Hall, Claret, 48 Cenacle Drive, Sanville Subdivision, Culiat, Quezon City.
The forum aimed to address the growing threats of global conflict, the dangers of nuclear escalation, and the crucial role of peace advocacy in the face of mounting aggression. With an assembly of human rights defenders, peace advocates, and sectoral leaders, the event sought to deepen discussions on collective resistance against war and militarization.
“We were at a critical juncture in history where the risk of large-scale conflict and nuclear warfare loomed over humanity. It was imperative that we came together to push for diplomacy, dialogue, and demilitarization,” said PAHRA Secretary General Edgar Cabalitan Jr.
The event featured esteemed speakers from various fields, including human rights, international relations, and security studies, who provided in-depth analyses on the state of global tensions and their implications for the Philippines and the world. Interactive discussions allowed participants to engage with experts and explore concrete actions toward a peaceful and just society.
SANLAKAS, a multisectoral coalition advocating for democracy, social justice, and human rights, emphasized the need for grassroots participation in resisting militarization and promoting peace. “Now more than ever, our collective voice had to rise against war and the forces that fueled it. This forum was a call to action for all leaders and advocates,” said a representative from SANLAKAS.
The All Leaders Forum on War, Peace, and Resistance was open to advocates, scholars, policymakers, and concerned citizens who wished to contribute to meaningful discussions and actions in pursuit of global peace.
