From November 23 to December 13, 2024, the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) and its member organizations conducted a series of coordinated events and activities in observance of Human Rights (HR) Week, championing justice, democracy, and human rights across the country.


The series of events commenced on November 23 with the Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearance (FIND) commemorating its anniversary through the launch of a documentary at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani, highlighting the continuing struggle for truth and justice. From November 25 to December 12, various organizations engaged in activities advocating against Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC), reinforcing efforts to protect the rights of women and children.


On November 27, LAHRA, Sumpay Mindanao, and RDCRAC hosted an Urban Poor Assembly, where marginalized communities gathered to discuss pressing issues affecting their welfare. Following this, on November 30, in observance of Bonifacio Day, PM-NAGKAISA and the National Wage Coalition led advocacy efforts to amplify labor rights. On the same day, LAHRA, Sumpay Mindanao, and RDCRAC conducted an event titled "Democracy for All: Tackling Political Dynasties and Upholding Filipino Rights to Elect Competent Leaders," highlighting the need for genuine democracy and electoral reforms. Additionally, Bantayog ng mga Bayani and Sarilaya organized the Annual Honoring of Martyrs and Heroes of Martial Law, paying tribute to those who resisted dictatorship and upheld human rights.


December began with two significant events on December 1. HRonlinePH hosted the Freedom of Expression Conference VIII and the 14th Human Rights Pinduteros Choice Awards, recognizing human rights defenders and digital activism. Simultaneously, ZOTO and KPML launched Urban Poor Week, a week-long series of activities aimed at advocating for the rights and welfare of urban poor communities. From December 2 to 5, PMCJ and Sanlakas actively participated in the Loss and Damage Fund Meeting, launching mobilizations and actions calling for climate finance and justice.


On December 4, FIND, AFAD, and CAED observed the National Day of Prayer for the Disappeared, featuring a roundtable discussion on enforced disappearances and a symbolic action to honor the missing. The next day, December 5, OMCT and UATC marked Freedom from Torture Day by launching the Global Index on Torture and commemorating the anniversary of RA 9745 (Anti-Torture Act) in an event held at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

December 6 saw PAHRA leading Youth Emerge 2, where the Youth Agenda for NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao was launched, empowering young advocates in human rights work. In the days leading up to Human Rights Day, additional significant events took place, including urban poor actions led by KPML and ZOTO (December 9), the General Assembly of AMKP (December 9), and the HRD Declaration Day Tribute organized by PAHRA, iDefend, and AIPH (December 9).


On December 10, Human Rights Day, PAHRA spearheaded a nationally coordinated action to amplify human rights advocacy and call for accountability. Finally, on December 12, PAHRA-TAF launched a project on cybersecurity, addressing digital threats against human rights defenders, and on December 12-13, PhilRights released its 2024 Monitoring and Documentation Report, presenting key findings on the state of human rights in the Philippines.

These coordinated events successfully raised awareness, mobilized communities, and strengthened advocacy efforts, reaffirming the collective commitment to justice, democracy, and human rights.
