On October 16, 2024, at Ateneo de Manila University, the Center for Migrant Advocacy Philippines hosted the Multi-Stakeholder Conference on Recruitment, gathering 76 participants (online and onsite). In partnership with Governance in Justice - GoJust , the event welcomed representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Lawyers Beyond Borders, International Labour Organization (ILO), International Organization for Migration (IOM), OFW family circles, recruitment agencies, and other international organizations to promote safe, fair, and ethical recruitment practices.
💼 Key Highlights:
🔹 Participants tackled pressing challenges, including inconsistent standards, transparency issues, and enforcement gaps. Discussions emphasized the need for reliable data in policy-making and underscored the importance of timely justice for migrant workers.
🔹 Panelists called for recruitment practices that align with both Philippine and international laws, emphasizing accountability and the need to incentivize ethical agencies in a supportive regulatory environment.
🤝 Breakout Sessions & Freedom Wall
Each breakout group received a copy of the Manifesto on Building Resilient Communities for Migrants and Families by Promoting Safe, Fair, and Ethical Recruitment to guide discussions, participants shared actionable recommendations like safe recruitment education, family-oriented pre-employment orientations, and improved agency accountability. The Freedom Wall allowed participants to express their hopes for advancing ethical recruitment.
